Introduction of Goryeo Celadon Museum

welcome.

There are approximately 200 kiln sites of Celadon around Daegu-myeon and Chilryang-myeon, Gangjin-gun in Jeollanam-do where Goryeo Celadon Museum is located, showing the birth, development, and decline of Goryeo Celadon at a glance, which is a cradle and a repository of Goryeo Celadon.

Goryeo Celadon Museum was started as the “Goryeo Celadon Project Office” during the 1970s to reenact Goryeo Celadon and opened as “Gangjin Celadon Information Museum” in September 1997. The museum has held special exhibitions, academic seminars, and contests annually since 1999, while cementing its position as the unique Celadon Museum in Korea. In 2006, the Museum was registered as a Class A Museum by changing its name into Gangjin Celadon Museum in 2006, and in 2015 the Museum was renamed as the Goryeo Celadon Museum in an attempt to develop as a museum representing Goryeo Celadon.

Our Museum provides visitors with opportunities to experience the past, the present and the future all in one place, which include relics on display to showcase the production techniques of delicate, sophisticated Goryeo Celadon, experience programs to fashion and feel the clay, and contents on display adapted with the modern digital technologies.

Our staff members and I will do everything we can to make the Goryeo Celadon Museum become an open museum that easily recognizes and feels historical significances and artistic values of Goryeo Celadon and also make the Museum grow into an institute responsible for studies, creative preservation, and inheritance of Goryeo Celadon.

Thank you.
